With the final day of SGCL B Division Quarterfinals, 4 teams will battle for the last 2 Semifinal slots this Friday, and the A Division Quarterfinals beginning this weekend, we are in for an exciting series of games. If you want to predict the M1 Pick’ems for the sick prizes but can’t tell NP apart from NYP and WWS apart from WSSS (like me), this guide is here to help you out.
Sunday 11 June (A Division)
3PM – Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) vs. Victoria Junior College (VJC)
Current odds: 92.93% to 7.07%
As the favorites to take the whole tournament, NYP should be able to comfortably take down VJC just based off their members individual skills with especially Brax and Scarletpetal being familiar names high up on the Challenger ladder (even amidst rumors of internal disputes).
Prediction: Big on NYP 2:0
6PM – ITE College West (ITECW) vs. Temasek Polytechnic (TP)
Current odds: 12.04% to 87.96%
Temasek Polytechnic is another force to be reckoned with; despite already being a solid team all around, they have the one of the best players in all of Singapore (and not just at a collegiate level) in their mid lane.
However, if there was any chance for an underdog victory versus TP, it would be this series as jungler ‘Soul’ won’t be able to attend the game and substitute Marksman, OrionGazer, will be subbing for jungle.
This seems to be a perfect set-up for the aggressive Penguinn with his solo queue tendencies to take over the game.
Prediction: The brave should go in big on ITE as this is the perfect set up for an underdog win off the backs of Penguinn. The safe bet would still be to go all in on Arykelic’s squad.
Either way, you should go for 2:0.
June 12, Monday
3PM – Singapore Polytechnic (SP) vs. National University of Singapore (NUS)
Current odds: 87.03% to 12.97%
With one of the most solid all round rosters in the A Division, SP should be able to take this series against NUS handily. Players to watch from SP will be Shashalala in Mid and jkch at Bot.
Prediction: Go for SP 2:0.
6PM – Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) vs. Republic Polytechnic (RP)
Current odds: 17.99% to 82.01%
With ⅘ of their previous roster as well as the veteran shotcalling coming in from FL Ares ( formerly RJB Ares) NP should be able to put up a good fight with their teamplay against the more individually skilled RP squad.
Prediction: I think RP will take this series but once again the odds are 55 to 45 for RP, since the odds are so skewed, you should go big on NP for the brave. The safer bet will be for RP. 2:1 either way.
Who’s Your Champ?
For me this is most likely going to be either Nanyang Polytechnic or Temasek Polytechnic. It should be a pretty close call.
June 9, Friday (B Division)
3PM – Geylang Methodist School (GM) vs. Bukit Batok Secondary School (BBSS)
Current odds: 25.46% to 74.54%
GM showed some moments of brilliance in their previous games but those moments were too fleeting to have them be favored in this series against an overall more solid BBSS. The mid lane matchup especially should be exciting as Geylang Methodist has one of the best mid laners in the B division; Nekodesu will be the key to watch up against Williom if his team wants to secure a semifinal spot.
Prediction: Small on GM or Medium on BBSS. BBSS is most likely to take this series. However, it isn’t a as one sided as the odds have it. I would put it 40 to 60 in favor of BBSS, thus I would go for GM 2-1.
6PM – Tanglin Secondary School (TS) vs. Westwood Secondary School (WWS)
Current odds: 11.01% to 88.99%
Westwood Secondary have been among the best teams at teamplay in the B division. However, I would expect this to be a close series as Tanglin Secondary should have the individual capabilities to keep them in this series; with both Fright and Flo having mechanical bright spots (especially Fright’s Viktor pentakill to keep TS in the game against WSSS) as well as MarcellaNe (who I rate as the 2nd best jungler in the B Div) having more time to gel his jungling with his team.
Prediction: Big on TS
Odds are way too good to pass up on the decent possibility of Tanglin Secondary taking this series.
