No, we don’t mean that the most famous DOTA 2 team purposely lost a match to win a huge prize pot or anything like that. The big EPICENTER news is that Team Liquid won 3-1 against Evil Geniuses by capping the game off with an unorthodox play.
So how did Liquid cement the win? By having teammate Amer “Miracle” Al-Barkawi rush into the enemy team’s spawn, which is usually guarded by an anti-camping cannon. This move is called diving the fountain; it’s a huge gamble for obvious reasons since the cannon will make short work of opposing heroes if the spawned heroes don’t.
At 31 minutes in the last game when Team Liquid is close 2-1, the team was confident with the gutsy play. Previously the team had a heavy lead to the point where most of EG had to fend off the team’s Bristleback played by Lasse “Matumbaman” Urpalainen.
But enough about that: you’re here to see that hyped-up dive fountain maneuver, right? Well, here’s Miracle doing his thing…
…followed up by an upset spawn death that led to EG throwing in the towel. As a result, Team Liquid won US$250,000 in prize money and may possibly get an invite in The International 2017.
