Here’s a recap of the Rocket League T.H.E Asia Pro League tournament that’s going on for the next couple of weeks, written by Rocket League Commentator Byron “Byza” Barker and edited to fit SPOUT 360’s editorial style. You can find his site here.
Its been 4 weeks since I last wrote about T.H.E Asia Pro League and hasn’t it been a whirl wind of games since then! But it wouldn’t be league play without any drama and its all boiled down to this point… FINALS! Aerial Lunatic Esports (ALu) the only Asia Mainland Team to make finals joins, Apricot Candy(AC), Glory Stone(GS) & Rule The Sky(RTS) in a powerhouse Finals Series. This is one you cannot miss!
ALu took on last place Toxicity and pulled the rug from underneath their feet. Games were quick and JarelNaden was on fire once again. His team mates ZiNXX & Ayro14 flew to a whole new level impressing not just us commentators but the viewers around Asia. One thing is for sure, they are going to be the team that cause an upset against GloryStone.
Glorystone, 6 weeks undefeated in league play showed us this team is ready for any opponent including their week 7 battle against Rule The Sky. Three games in GS were looking like they had the win under their belt and would be undefeated in league play. But, for RTS something clicked which would scare any European or American RLCS Team; four games in a row aka REVERSE SWEEP. Rule the Sky dug to a new level that we are yet to experience in Asia and this is why they are favourites going into finals Series.
Apricot Candy took on their rivals Tomchan on week 7 and only dropped one game. Their form over the last couple weeks has been questionable and they were fighting for the last spot into the finals over CrossBar-Kings who were hoping Tomchan would win. But a positive to take out for Apricot Candy would be that their form of the last two weeks has been excellent and they are hitting and passing the ball perfectly! They will be ready for Finals; however, the have a big challenge first up against Rule The Sky.
Corey Dyer AKA DigitalBacon from the UK has this to say about League play and finals:
“Casting the APL has been an eye opening experience to Rocket League outside of the EU/NA/OCE norm, the region has depth and are hungry to show what they’ve got. So far from league play we’ve seen 2 teams (Rule the Sky and Glorystone) play way above everyone else, but look back to seasons 1 and 2 of RLCS and it’s somewhat a similar story, we have Apricot candy and Aerial Lunatics also raising and getting better each and every week and it’s been fantastic to watch them grow.
Moving onto the Grand Finals where all these players have worked to get to, you still have a 2 horse race but with the double elimination format I’m expecting an upset somewhere and the teams that lose to grow stronger as they make their way through. All in all the Asian scene (the Japanese teams in particular for me) have been a breath of fresh air to Rocket League and I can’t wait to see how they perform this upcoming Saturday and in the future.”
So make sure you adjust your body clocks for this one! Pick a team and cheer them on! Will see you in the Twitch Channel. Who will win? Have your say here.
Start time: 3pm GMT +7 Saturday – 30/09/17
End time: 8pm GMT +7 Saturday – 30/09/17
Good luck to all four teams in the finals series and may the best Asian team win!
