The one thing limiting most Healers in HOTS is simple – resource management. Once a healer runs out of mana, most of them are pretty useless. With the Kel’Thuzad patch, Lieutenant Morales has received a rework and talent update that has turned her into one of the best healers in the game.
What changed? They removed her mana costs and made her healing beam run on an energy recharge system. Played correctly, the combat medic can stay out on the field forever.
Key Ability Changes
Healing Beam – Channeled Ability, Costs 6 energy per second, heals allies for 180 +4%/level health per second as long as Lt. Morales is in range. Lt. Morales recharges 6 energy per second after not channelling for 3 seconds. Morales can hold up to 100 energy.
Caduceus Reactor – Trait ( Passive ), As long as Lt. Morales is channelling healing beam, she regenerates 2% of her maximum health per second.
Level 1 – Caduceus Feedback – Basic attacks against heroes restore 4 energy and 1 energy against non-heroes.
Level 4 – Trauma Trigger – Taking damage below 40% health grants 30 armor for 3 seconds. This effect has a 60 second cooldown.
Level 7 – Prolonged Safeguard – Increases Safeguard duration by 50%.
Level 10 – Stim Drone – Grant an allied hero 75% attack speed and 25% movement speed boost for 10 seconds.
Level 13 – System Shock – Heroes hit by displacement grenade deal 30% less damage for 4 seconds.
Level 16 – Extended Core – Increases the range of Healing Beam by 40%
Level 20 – Hyperactivity – Reduces the cooldown of Stim Drone from 90 seconds to 45 seconds, and increases the movement speed boost from 25% to 50%.
This talent build focuses on keeping Lt. Morales alive, as she is often the primary target for the enemy team in teamfights. You can’t heal your team if you’re dead, so this build aims to prevent dying as much as possible.
When To Pick Lt. Morales
Lt. Morales is an amazing pick when there are heroes on the team that can properly utilise her Stim Drone heroic ability. Autoattack-based heroes such as Valla and Raynor would love the attack speed boost whilst some melee assassins such as Zeratul and Greymane can use the extra movement speed to catch up to the enemy backline.
When NOT To Pick Lt. Morales
Lt. Morales is less effective when your team’s damage is primarily ability-based. If you already have heroes like Jaina and Li-Ming, you might want to consider picking up another healer instead.
- Amazing single-target healing.
- Safeguard can allow your tanks to live much longer than they usually would.
- Displacement Grenade is a great ability for both engaging and disengaging.
- Doesn’t use mana, can stay out on the field forever.
- Requires some team synergy, team has to draft around her.
- No escape abilities. Requires protection to prevent getting focused down.
- Less effective if multiple team members need healing at the same time.
Channeling Healing Beam on a full-health ally still regenerates 2% of Lt. Morale’s health per second, but does not consume any energy.
You may choose to pick up Vanadium Plating instead at level 7 if the enemy team has a lot of stuns, it’s power level is comparable to Uther’s Guardian of Ancient Kings talent.
