Climbing ranked games can prove to be a challenge, especially if you’re solo queuing. Trust me, I know; I just finished in Legend (2 stars) last season. So here are some useful tips in climbing up the ranks in Moonton’s MOBA.
Keep Up With The Meta
Now, I’m not saying if you pick off-meta heroes you can’t win; player skill still matters. However, it’ll make your games slightly more difficult.
The tier list below is contributed by Reddit community kaylankonnor, which is an accurate representation of the current meta. Knowing the meta means once you hit Epic rank and enter into draft mode, you’ll know which heroes to ban and to pick first for your team.
After the most recent patch went live, marksmen are no longer needed in lineups. You might even get flamed if you picked an AD Carry. The meta lineup now consists of 2 Mages, 2 Assassins and 1 tank. Mages and Assassins dominate the game now, so pick one of these 2 if you want to win your games.
Epic & Beyond…
So you have managed to come this far. Ranked games are now conducted in draft mode, and most importantly, you need to strike a well-balanced lineup (besides knowing which hero to ban). Depending on your position in the team, sometimes you may get to choose first. Other times, you need to pick the most optimal hero for your team.
For example, if your team has enough Marksmen already (this happens most of the time, FYI), you’ll either need to pick a Tank or a Mage depending on the heroes remaining in the pool, and in this pool there are certain heroes that are better in their category (Tigreal > Balmond if your team has lots of AOE). You will meet some pubs from time to time who will choose Marksmen and not a Tank when there are already 2 Marksmen on the team. So be prepared for that.
Learn At Least One Hero Per Class
Sometimes, you might get to use the hero you want. But what happens if someone else picks him or her? You need to learn other champions in your pool so that you have alternative choices.
You don’t need to get champions that cost 32k BP to win games, there are good heroes who cost much less. Champions from each different classes are as such:
- Saber – 6.5k,
- Miya – 10.8k
- Minotaur and Cyclops -15k
- Chou – 24k
There are heroes who can be a good alternative if your preferred hero is unavailable to pick. For example, Miya is another good alternative should Layla get picked first. Go to Classic mode to give the heroes a few tries before deciding which hero suits your playstyle.
Choose The Right Emblem & Battle Spell
It’s hard to unlock and level up all the different emblems if you’re a free-to-play player, therefore it’s ideal to focus on the basic few: Physical, Magic, Tank and Jungle. You should focus on a specific class and the corresponding emblem. For example, a Marksman like Layla should use either the Physical or the Jungle emblem. Eudora the Mage should focus on the Magic emblem.
Battle Spells are another vital area that determines how your games are played before the match starts. Marksmen generally use Inspire, while Mages use Flicker. Fighters & Junglers use Execute, and Tanks normally opt for Purify.
The situation also depends on how you play too. Some Tigreal players will agree that Flicker will help them set up their ultimates. Others might think that Purify fits their style better and they can get into position better than Flicker.
Co-Operate With Your Team
Remember: Mobile Legends is a team game. You will need teamwork to win the game. There are instances where one Marksman can carry the game on his/her own, but it does not work that way as you move up the ranks. If your teammates in the other lane need help, you should proceed to help them instead of questioning their ability to win their lane and then getting angry at them. If they’re pushing a lane, you should join them in the push unless you can take down towers fast by yourself.
Read The Patch Notes!
I cannot emphasize this enough. Good players know what’s new everytime a new update for MLBB is up and ready.
Here are a few things to take note when reading patch notes:
- Heroes skills changes (buffs and nerfs)
- Map changes (Terrain or Role buffs)
- Gear changes (Crafting price, new gears)
- Battle Spell changes (Duration)
Hopefully, these tips will help you to rank up in no time at all, and propel you on your journey to Legend tier!
