Happy early Halloween, SPOUT 360 readers & Overwatch players!
With the re-run of the Junkenstein’s Revenge event from last year that now adds in an endless horde mode, we figured you might need a refresher course. SPOUT 360 looks at what each of the available heroes brings to the table as well as the optimal strategy to help you last through the Halloween night.
*Keep in mind that in regular Junkenstein’s Revenge mode, only Soldier 76, McCree, Hanzo, and Ana are selectable. Also, these tips apply to all difficulties: the number of mobs increase with each difficulty but the tactics remain the same.
-Soldier 76: He will be your constant DPS hero in this mode. He can easily take out RIP-Tire with his Helix Rockets. You can pull off a quick Zomnic clear with his Tactical Visor Ultimate.
-McCree: This cowboy’s Deadeye Ultimate can one-shot Reaper, Junkrat, Symmetra, and Mercy, as well as deal significant damage to Roadhog.
-Genji: Thousand-degree blade cutting through Zomnics. That’s basically this ninja’s job in this mode.
-Torbjörn: Pick this hero if you can’t aim. He is the only one who can tank with shield & Molten Core Ultimate. The armour packs are great for surviving. You should put his turret in the middle and right positions, preferably on raised platforms. Keep in mind that Zombardiers and bosses will focus down your turret at the later stages, making your life rather difficult.
-Hanzo: His Dragonstrike Ultimate will take out Junkrats/Junkensteins easily since they can’t move from that ledge. You can one-shot RIP-Tires if your aim is good. Just have your “left click mouse button to hold” on standby.
-Ana: Biotic Grenade stops Roadhog from healing up so that your team can kill him off quick. A Sleep Dart into McCree Deadeye combo can take out Reaper before he gets the chance to go into Wraith Form. But most importantly, prioritize healing before anything else. Ana does not work well with all of her DPS comrades out of commission.
-Zenyatta: This omnic’s Discord Orb is pretty good in this mode; stick it onto any bosses and let your DPS melt them. Orb of Harmony is also essential since you can stick it onto someone holding the stairs/top left corner of the map and just ignore them for the rest of the game. Zen also brings higher DPS than Ana, and thus is the better support in the endless mode where he is available. Transcendence is also way better than Nano Boost later into the game when fights are really chaotic and your team has to deal with 12 bosses running amuck.
-Widowmaker: Uh…I guess she One-Shots RIP-Tires too. Other than that, she’s pretty bad in this game mode. Don’t pick her unless you want to get overwhelmed. Or if you want a challenge.
-This should be your general target prioritization tree: BOSS > RIP-TIRE > ZOMBARDIERS > ZOMNICS
–Always focus fire on the bosses until the RIP-Tire spawns. When it spawns, look for an opportunity to take it down before continuing DPS on the boss. Draw an imaginary line that should any Zomnics or RIP-Tires cross, that they should take priority for DPS. Bosses don’t do any damage to the door, they are just there to distract you and make your life difficult.
-Here’s what each hero’s target priority should be (this is taking effective range into consideration):
- Soldier 76: Zombardiers > Boss > Zomnics
- McCree: Boss > Zomnics > Zombardiers
- Genji: Zomnics > Zombardiers > Boss
- Torbjorn: Boss > Zombardiers > Zomnics (Your turret will mop up Zomnics)
- Hanzo: Zombardiers > Zomnics > Boss
- Ana: Boss > Zombardiers > Zomnics
- Zenyatta: Discord Orb on Boss > Zombardiers > Zomnics
- Widowmaker: Zombardiers > Zomnics > Boss
-Here’s an optimal team comp you can work with: Zenyatta, McCree, Soldier 76, anybody else except Widowmaker.
–One hero has to focus on taking down Dragon Symmetra’s Shield Generator when it spawns at the top left area with the rampart and bridge. You cannot one-shot RIP Tires if this generator is up. Have someone distract Symmetra by having someone tank her beam while buffed up with a Zenyatta Orb, or Ana pumping sleep darts in her while another person rushes the Shield Generator.
-If you are standing next to the areas where the bosses spawn, it can result in something like this…
We have a whole article on that current trend; do check it out!
-Team coordination is very important for this brawl. Find some friends to take on this challenge together. Or you could head on down to our Discord and find some people to play with too!
