Riot Games just released a huge new update for League of Legends this week, and people have mixed/angry feelings about it. But mostly angry.
-Riot Games released a preseason patch which went live this week. This patch, dubbed 7.22, is meant to overhaul the rune (stat) system, uncap the levelling up system, increase the prominence of loot boxes, and remove IP boosting because that old currency is gone.
-Speaking of IP, the old currency is replaced with a new currency called Blue Essence (BE). This can be used to buy Champions and items. You cannot buy skins though; you still use RP for that.
-To earn BE without using real money, you level up. As a bonus, legacy account owners will unlock 5000 BE after their first game.
-The complaints online are all stemming from BE. Basically, the new system is accommodating for newer players but not for veterans. Buying champions with this system, as well as increasing their mastery level, can also prove to be tedious. The trade-off here is that there are now more opportunities to earn BE, hence the inflation. Check out the following headlines below to see what we mean:
-Riot Games officially commented on the matter, courtesy of an employee named “The_Cactopus”. This was a response to players who spent BE without realizing they had champions to buy Master seven for.
“Hmmmmmm yeah that does feel bad. I think we didn’t really consider that spending BE on champ mastery could feel worse in the new system because it now comes at the expense of other good shit. Thanks for pointing this out. We’re gonna think about what we should do.”
Long story short, Riot Games is working on a solution and are listening to your feedback. It’s still too early to tell whether the new rewards system is detrimental or not. If you feel like you need to air your grievances, why not join us on our Discord, Twitter and Facebook?
