The biggest fighting game tournament in Southeast Asia will be branching out into other Asian countries once 2017 is done and over with.
According to an announcement during the GameStart Asia press conference on October 4 by BeastAPAC co-founder Yungtek “Cameraman” Koh, 2018 and 2019 is looking good for fighting game tournaments in Southeast Asia. South East Asia Major Philippines will be in 2018, while South East Asia Major Thailand and South East Asia Major Malaysia will be held in 2019.
It’s still pretty early to be confirming games and dates, so we’ll have to wait a while for further developments.
This year’s South East Asia Major tournament will feature Street Fighter V and the Capcom Pro Tour Asia Regional Finals tournament, Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, Tekken 7, Windjammers, Guilty Gear Xrd Rev2, and BlazBlue: Central Fiction. So far, the confirmed pro players who will be attending SEAM 2017 include Justin Wong, Kun “Xian” Ho, Yusuke “Momochi”, Li-Wei “Oil King” Lin, Naoki “Moke” Nakayama, “Tachikawa” Toru, Kenryo “Mago” Hayashi, and Ryota “Kazunoko” Inoue.
On a related note, Cameraman also shared some numbers concerning BeastAPAC’s tournament venture. From last year to now, the organizers have accumulated 5 million video views from their live streams, launched 20 fighting game events, and secured US$160k in prize pot money.
