It was an intense three games over at the Vainglory SEA Mobile Major 2017 during the weekend at Gamestart 2017, where Infamous made an excellent comeback, triumphing over Impunity 2-1.
Infamous rode an easy 2-0 win against Dynamimic in the loser’s bracket to meet their nemesis, Impunity, once again at the finals of SEAMM2017, where they geared up for an exciting three-match finals.
This is not the first time that the two teams have clashed at the finals of a tournament. Both teams showed each other a healthy amount of respect in the three matches, especially in early game. Despite an Ace in game 1, Infamous still lost to Impunity after the latter secured the kraken and managed to distract the team long enough for the kraken to break the crystal.
In game 2, however, Infamous refused to back down. They employed the same tactic against Impunity, making a shocking comeback in the last few minutes of the game as they went all in after securing the kraken. Infamous kept up its pressure on Impunity despite losing two of their members in the final team fight, allowing the kraken to obtain the win for them.
Game 3 – the tiebreaker – was a game of respect and caution, with both teams playing defensively and giving each other plenty of space. When the skirmishes did happen, they were fast and furious – but never reckless. It was a very close call, with Infamous’ Justin “spaghetti” Timothy Carmona Bersamin and Impunity’s Amos “Quatervois” Ker Zen Shun being the only two surviving players in their final team fight. There was one key factor, however: Infamous had secured the kraken.
Spaghetti ran in with the kraken as Quatervois recalled to base. With nothing left to lose, Spaghetti threw himself at the crystal, ignoring Quatervois. Quatervois killed him as quickly as he could – but could not deal enough damage to the kraken before it destroyed the crystal.
It was almost a mirror of what happened at the Vainglory 8 SEA Summer Championships earlier this year, where Impunity mounted an equally stunning comeback against Infamous. The two teams are truly evenly matched, and there were excellent plays from both sides.
