Exclusive Interview with Team Impunity
Team Impunity, formerly known as Fear Gaming before being acquired earlier this week, is regarded as one of the best MLBB teams in the world. Having won GameAsia’s Gameshow tournament in Singapore earlier this month, they have entered the tournament as the hot favourites to take the championship.
The team’s captain is Nicholas ‘God’ Chia, the only Singaporean player with a full level 60 emblem for all 8 sets. The team’s other members include Ru ‘Soul’ Chyi, Akihiro ‘Jipunlang’ Furusawa, Wilson ‘Beast’ Sung, and Zheng ‘Ace’ Wei.
Our correspondent Jacky Ng has secured an exclusive interview with God, where he discussed about Impunity’s chances of winning, the team’s history, and the current state of the game.
As the overwhelming favourite for this tournament, how do you feel coming into this and whom do you think will be your biggest challenger in the crowd?
God: We are fairly confident coming into this tournament but will not be complacent as well. Team Axis will likely be our toughest opponent for this finals. We met them in rank games and also scrims before; the level of their plays is pretty good.
How was Team Impunity formed?
God: We (God, Beast, Ace) are real life friends. We started grinding the ladder together and along the way recruited ‘Jipunlang’ and ‘Soul’ to form “Fear Gaming”, which later became “Impunity”.
Have you guys tried any PC MOBA games before MLBB?
God: ‘Jipulang’ was a former League Of Legends competitive player, while the rest of the team have played both DOTA 2 & LOL on a casual basis.
Which heroes in the current meta are considered ‘OP’ (overpowered)? Who do you feel should be banned in ranked games?
God: I feel Karrie is way too strong as a marksmen currently. Hayabusa and Fanny are also top-tier bans in high MMR rank games.
Mage Genius Harley is going to be released soon. If he gets added into the game tomorrow, is your team prepared to play him?
God: Yes, we are ready to play the new hero in this tournament.
For starters, which heroes would you recommend to climb ranked games with?
God: I would recommend Zilong (formerly known as Yun Zhao) or Karrie. Being good with these 2 heroes will get you to Legend pretty easily.
Do you think MLBB needs improvement? If so, how?
God: I feel that the current hero pool is still too small. Also, certain heroes such as Bane are too weak to be even played in ranked games, and Karrie definitely requires some nerf to her kit.
MLBB was recently sued by Riot Games for copyright infringement. What are your thoughts on the lawsuit, and how do you think it will affect MLBB?
God: I believe that MLBB has its unique attributes that make it different from League of Legends, so I am fairly confident that the game will not be affected by the recent lawsuit saga.
